Use this MAP to determine if there is a problem with the management console hardware. This MAP might direct you to procedures in other sections of this service guide or to other service guides.

MAP6020 Section-1

About this task

Attention: During problem determination you might be asked to switch off and restart the management console. Before doing that, you must first verify that the customer is not accessing the management console through the ESSNI interface.

Procedure

Troubleshoot the management console server, and then return to this MAP and go to MAP6020 Section-2. For troubleshooting, refer to the appropriate manual that is on the IBM® DS8000® series Service Documents CDROM:
  • xSeries 335 Type 8676, Type 8830 Hardware Maintenance Manual and Troubleshooting Guide

  • When performing laptop management console repairs as directed in the appropriate manual (ThinkPad® T500 and W500 (15.4-inch widescreen) Hardware Maintenance Manual; ThinkPad® T510, T510i, and W510 Hardware Maintenance Manual;Hardware Maintenance Manual ThinkPad® T520, T520i, and W520), use only those FRUs specified in the IBM DS8000 Parts Catalog.
  • When the isolation procedure calls for replacement of internal laptop parts, only replace those FRUs specified in the IBM DS8000 Parts Catalog. For example:
    • DVD-RAM drive
    • Hard drive
    • Memory DIMM
    • Laptop keyboard

For internal parts not specified in the DS8000 parts catalog, replace the entire laptop assembly by using the FRU number for the laptop with keyboard.

  • When the entire laptop assembly is replaced, you must reload the management console image without critical data backup.
