DS8000 Service Documentation Version 6.3.3

Routing and connecting the rack power control cables to the RPC cards

Procedure

  1. You will perform the following steps for one expansion rack. If you have additional expansion racks to install, you will be sent back here later.
  2. There are two versions of the Air baffle, determine which one you have:
    • Old version - one piece of sheet metal that must be removed before the 208VDC bus bar gate to the right of the baffle can be swung to the open position. Go to the next step.
    • New version - sheet metal with a flexible plastic cutout at the right rear ( 3  in the figure that follows). The plastic cutout bends out of the way when the 208VDC bus bar gate is swung open. Go to step 4.
  3. Remove the two screws  1  and take out the Air baffle  2  as shown in Figure 1. Retain the parts for later reinstallation.

  4. Remove the two screws  1  and pivot the 208VDC bus bar gate to the service position  2 , as shown in Figure 2.

  5. Remove the tailgate frame bracket. Remove two screws  2  as shown in Figure 3. Loosen but do not remove the two top screws  1 . Slide the bracket out.

  6. At the rear of the expansion rack being installed, find the power control cable that connects to the PPS sequencer module connector  J1  in the upper PPS.

The loose end of the cable has a gray label.

  7. Route the  J1  cable from the prior step to the rear upper right of Rack-1 (the location of the RPC cards). The cable route is through the frame to frame access holes near the rear cover upper hinges.
  8. Use Table 1 and Figure 5 in this step to determine which RPC1 card connector to plug the expansion rack power control cable to. Connect the cable to the RPC card.

  9. At the rear of the expansion rack being installed, find the power control cable that connects to the PPS sequencer module connector  J2  in the upper PPS. The loose end of the cable has a yellow label.

  10. Route the  J2  cable from the prior step to the rear upper right of Rack-1 (the location of the RPC cards). The cable route is through the frame to frame access holes near the rear cover upper hinges.
  11. Use Table 2 and Figure 7 to determine which RPC2 card connector to plug the expansion rack power control cable to. Connect the cable to the RPC card.

  12. Are you here to install the cables for Rack-2?
  13. All blue FC-AL cables in Rack-2 are already connected, none of them go to Rack-1. The Rack-2 SPCN and PCIe cables will be connected to Rack-1. Go to Routing and connecting the Rack-2 SPCN and PCIe cables.
