Completing the logical installation of the I/O enclosures

The steps in this procedure power-on and logically install each I/O enclosure pair. The lower pair will be logically installed first followed by the upper pair.

Procedure

  1. At the front of Rack-2, connect the four DC power cables to the lower I/O enclosure pair. The lower two I/O enclosures will power on.
  2. Ensure the upper I/O enclosure pair, R2-XI1 (U1400.2B1.sssssss) and R2-XI2 (U1400.2B2.sssssss), is not powered on. The DC power cables to the upper I/O enclosure pair should not be connected. If they are, disconnect them now and then go to the next step.
  3. For the bottom pair of I/O enclosures only, perform the logical installation and verification steps.
    1. From the navigation area, click Storage Facility Management > storage facility.
    2. From the bottom Task area, click MES Install/Remove > Install I/O Enclosure or Components. A Single Choice Message Box window opens.
    3. Select Install I/O Enclosures and click Submit.
    4. When prompted to select an I/O Enclosure pair for installation, select U1400.2B3.sssssss and U1400.2B4.sssssss and click Submit.
    5. Follow the guided process to complete the logical install and verification for this pair of I/O enclosures.
    6. When directed to return to the MES installation instruction to install U1400.2B3.sssssss, click Next to continue.
    7. When directed to return to the MES installation instruction to install U1400.2B4.sssssss, click Next to continue.
    8. When notified that the installation has completed successfully and directed to return to the MES or installation instructions, click Next to finish the installation process.
  4. Display and repair any open serviceable events.
    • If there are none, go to the next step.
    • If there is an open serviceable event with SRC 10009135, do not repair it, instead just close or ignore it. It is an expected error from opening the SPCN cable loop. Go to the next step.
    • If there is an open serviceable event with an SRC other than 10009135, repair it and then go to the next step.
  5. View the storage facility status. If any of the system check results display as FAILED, view the details and refer to MAP1100 View storage facility state (end of call). Before you continue the installation, all status fields should display as PASSED.
    1. From the navigation area, click Storage Facility Management > storage facility.
    2. From the bottom Task area, click Service Utilities > View Storage Facility State. A window displays the status (passed/failed) of 25 or more system checks. The following is an example.

Note: If the status for Large File Transfer (the tenth System Check Type status from the top) displays as FAILED, the remaining System Check Types below it cannot be displayed.
    3. To display further details, select a row and click Details.
  6. At the front of Rack-2, connect the four DC power cables to the four power supplies of the upper I/O enclosure pair. The upper two I/O enclosures will power on.
