PWR1904

A power supply or regulator overcurrent fault is occurring in the CEC enclosure.

Before you begin

Before servicing the system, refer to the other PWR19xx MAPs for important safety information.

Before you begin

Note: Storage complex repair actions must always be managed from the management console. To replace any FRUs identified in this procedure, use Storage Facility Management > storage facility > Exchange Parts. If the FRUs are listed in this or another Serviceable Event, select them from there.

Procedure

  1. Is the reference code 1xxx1C02, 1C04, or 1C06?
    • Yes, continue with the next step.
    • No, go to step 5.
  2. Is the reference code 1xxx 1C02 or 1C04?
    • Yes, go to step 4.
    • No, continue with the next step.
  3. Perform the following steps:
    1. Power off the failing CEC enclosure indicated in the problem. Use HMC > Service Applications > Service Focal Point > Service Utilities > Storage Facility Systems Management > Deactivate a System then Power Off a System.
    2. Replace one of the memory DIMMs on the processor cards (see Location codes in serviceable events and Exchanging parts).
    3. Power on the CEC enclosure. Use HMC > Service Applications > Service Focal Point > Service Utilities > Storage Facility Systems Management > Power On a System.
    4. Has the problem been resolved?
      • Yes, the problem is resolved, continue with step 17.
      • No, go to step 3.e.
    5. Have you replaced all of the memory DIMMs?
      • Yes, go to step 4.
      • No, repeat step 3 and replace the next memory DIMM.
  4. Perform the following steps:
    1. Power off the failing CEC enclosure indicated in the problem. Use HMC > Service Applications > Service Focal Point > Service Utilities > Storage Facility Systems Management > Deactivate a System then Power Off a System.
    2. Replace one of the processor cards (see Exchanging parts).
    3. Power on the CEC enclosure. Use HMC > Service Applications > Service Focal Point > Service Utilities > Storage Facility Systems Management > Power On a System.
    4. Has the problem been resolved?
      • Yes, the problem has been resolved. Continue with step 17.
      • No, continue with step 4.e.
    5. Have you replaced all of the processor cards?
      • Yes, go to step 8.
      • No, repeat step 4 and replace the next processor card.
  5. Perform the following steps:
    1. Power off the failing CEC enclosure indicated in the problem. Use HMC > Service Applications > Service Focal Point > Service Utilities > Storage Facility Systems Management > Deactivate a System then Power Off a System .
    2. Disconnect the power input cables to the CEC power supplies E1 and E2 (see Location codes in serviceable events).
    3. Disconnect all of the I/O devices (optical and disk units) from the CEC enclosure you are working on by sliding them partially out of the unit. See Location codes in serviceable events and Exchanging parts.
    4. Remove and label all PCI cards that are installed.
    5. Reconnect the power cable to the CEC power supplies E1 and E2.
    6. Power on the CEC enclosure. Use HMC > Service Applications > Service Focal Point > Service Utilities > Storage Facility Systems Management > Power On a System.
      Does a power reference code occur?
      • Yes, got to the next step.
      • No, go to step 10.
  6. Perform the following steps:
    1. Power off the failing CEC enclosure.
    2. Replace one of the system fans. See Subsystem Locations and Exchanging parts.
    3. Power on the CEC enclosure.
      Does a power reference code occur?
      • Yes, continue with the next step.
      • No, the fan you just replaced was the failing item. The problem is resolved; continue with step 17.
  7. Have you tried replacing all of the fans?
    • Yes, reinstall all of the fans you replaced in step 6 and continue with the next step.
    • No, perform the following steps:
    • a. Power off the system.
    • b. Reinstall the fan that you just removed in step 6 to its original location.
    • c. Repeat step 6.
  8. Perform the following steps:
    1. Power off the failing CEC enclosure.
    2. Replace one of the processor regulator cards. See Location codes in serviceable events and Exchanging parts.
    3. Power on the CEC enclosure.
      Does a power reference code occur?
      • Yes, continue with the next step.
      • No, the processor regular card you just replaced was the failing item. The problem is resolved. Continue with 17.
  9. Have you tried replacing all of the processor regulator cards?
    • Yes, replace the backplane - P2 SYSBKPL. This ends the procedure.
    • No, perform the following steps:
    • a. Power off the failing CEC enclosure.
    • b. Reinstall the processor regulator card that you just removed in step 8.
    • c. Repeat step 8.
  10. Perform the following steps:
    1. Power off the failing CEC enclosure.
    2. Reinstall all of the PCI cards you removed in step 5 to their original locations.
    3. Power on the CEC enclosure.
      Does a power reference code occur?
      • Yes, continue with the next step.
      • No, go to step 13.
  11. Perform the following steps:
    1. Power off the CEC enclosure.
    2. Disconnect one of the PCI cards you reinstalled in step 10.
    3. Power on the CEC enclosure.
      Does a power reference code occur?
      • Yes, continue with the next step.
      • No, exchange the last card you disconnected in this step (see Exchanging parts). The problem is resolved, continue with step 17.
  12. Have you tried disconnecting all of the PCI cards?
    • Yes, reinstall all of the parts you have removed or exchanged in this procedure and return to Start here. This ends the procedure.
    • No, repeat step 11.
  13. Perform the following steps:
    1. Power off the CEC enclosure.
    2. Reconnect all of the I/O devices (optical and disk units) that you disconnected in step 5.
    3. Power on the CEC enclosure.
      Does a power reference code occur?
      • Yes, continue with the next step.
      • No, the problem is resolved. Continue with step 16.
  14. Perform the following steps.
    1. Power off the failing CEC enclosure.
    2. Disconnect one of the I/O devices (optical and disk units) that you reconnected in step 13.
    3. Power on the CEC enclosure.
      Does a power reference code occur?
      • Yes, continue with the next step.
      • No, exchange the last I/O device you disconnected in this step (see Exchanging parts). The problem is resolved, continue with step 17.
  15. Have you tried disconnecting all of the I/O devices?
    • Yes, reinstall all of the parts you have removed or exchanged in this procedure and return to Start here. This ends the procedure.
    • No, repeat step 14.
  16. The problem is resolved. Did you remove any parts that need to be reinstalled?
    • Yes, perform the following steps:
      1. Power off the CEC enclosure.
      2. Reinstall all of the parts that you have removed or exchanged in this procedure.
      3. Continue with step 17.
    • No, continue with the next step.
  17. If you have not done so already, power on the CEC enclosure, close associated problems and return it to the customer. Perform the following:
    1. Power on the storage facility. Use HMC > Service Applications > Service Focal Point > Service Utilities > Storage Facility Systems Management > Power On a System and Reactivate a System
    2. To close any associated problems, use HMC > Service Applications > Service Focal Point > Manage Serviceable Events.
