Bit Error Rate Threshold incidents are caused by specific
conditions at an interface or along a line which can cause bits to
be received or interpreted incorrectly.
About this task
Bits that are received or interpreted incorrectly are counted.
When a specific number is reached (threshold exceeded), the link is
operating in a degraded mode. Bit errors are counted by each node
attached on a link. You must determine which node(s) in a link have
detected a threshold exceeded condition to identify the link or nodes
causing the incident.
Note: Link errors (including "BER Exceeded"), when detected by
the DS8000 host adapter, are usually caused by something external
to the DS8000. The possible causes include the:
- Optical cabling
- Fibre Channel switch (if a switch is used)
- System at the opposite end of the link (if directly attached,
without a switch)
