Cabling and connecting the management console to the customer network and phone line
Procedure
- Route and connect the customer Ethernet
cable.
- Locate the customer-supplied Ethernet cable.
- Ensure the cable has been routed between the customer ethernet connector and the rack-1 tailgate.
- Ensure the customer end of the cable is connected to the customer network port.
- Route the Ethernet cable through the tailgate and up either the left or right side of the rack alongside the blue FC-AL cables. Use cable ties to secure the cables.
- Connect the cable to the customer Ethernet port (eth2). See:
- For X335 server, see Figure 1
- For X336 server, see Figure 2
- For X3550 server, see Figure 3
- For ThinkPad laptop, see Figure 4.

Note: Ethernet connector and modem connector might be reversed on some racks. Both connectors are at the rear of the rack, to the right of the Ethernet switches, below the bottom storage enclosure air baffle.
- Route and connect the customer's phone
line cable by performing the following steps:
- Locate the customer's phone line cable.
- Ensure the cable has been routed between the customer phone line connector and the rack-1 tailgate.
- Work with the customer to verify that the telephone line is analog, not digital.
- Connect the cable to the customer's telephone line connector.
- At rack-1, route the customer's phone line cable through the storage facility tailgate and up the left side of the rack. Use cable ties to secure the cables.
- Connect the customer's phone line cable to the rack-1 modem RJ-11 connector.

- Which management console are you installing?
- The primary management console, go to Powering on and verifying the storage facility.
- The secondary management console, go to Checking if the HMC requires further code update to synchronize primary and secondary HMC code levels.
