Checking if the HMC requires further code update to synchronize
primary and secondary HMC code levels
Procedure
- Refer back to the LIC
bundle VRMF level
that you determined for the currently installed HMC. Select the following
that applies.
- Later than VRMF 6.1.740.17. You need to update the code level
of MC 2 to the same LIC bundle level which is currently installed
on the MC 1. You should have written down the LIC bundle level of
MC 1 earlier. Go to MC 1 and find the HMC update CDs of that LIC bundle.
If the MC 1 update CDs are not available, you must acquire the HMC
update code images through the customer network. Go to the next step.
- From the navigation area, click Updates.
- From the right work area, select the check
box for the appropriate HMC. The bottom Task area
displays a list of tasks you can select.
- Click Acquire Code Images. The Acquire New Releases window opens.
- If you are using CD/DVDs to acquire code, continue with
this step. If you are using the network, go to the next step.
- Select Removable Media (CDROM) radio
button.
- Click Go.
- Insert the CDROMs as prompted by the screens.
- A pop-up message will indicate the acquisition is complete.
- Go to step 8.
- If you are using the network to acquire code, continue
with this step.
- Select the Network radio
button.

the "Host Name or IP Address of Network Source" field.

then select Okay.
- A series of Progress Dialog screens will indicate the
files are being read.
- A pop-up will indicate the acquisition is complete;
go to step 8.
- From
the navigation area, click Updates. From the
right work area, select the check box for the appropriate HMC. The
bottom Task area displays a list of tasks you can select.
- Click Update HMC Code.
- Highlight the desired code level (this should be the level
that you just acquired) and click Okay.
- Proceeding with the update will take the HMC offline. Select Yes.
The HMC will restart.
A series of screens will indicate which component is being updated.
- Select Yes when you are prompted
with the message An HMC reboot is necessary. Would you like
an automatic reboot?
The HMC will restart.
