IBM's recommended service connection is through the high-speed VPN network
that uses a secure Internet connection. This connection is preferred for the
following reasons:
- Remote service is carried out using a graphical interface.
- Problem determination activity logs, error logs, and diagnostic dumps,
which might be required to effectively diagnose error conditions can be large.
While IBM® recommends
configuring the customer network to support connection through the Internet,
all support functions can be performed through the asynchronous modem connection
if the high-speed network is not available for any reason.
