Unable to retrieve the Vital Product Data from a FRU.
Before you begin
Note: Storage complex repair actions must always be managed from the management
console. To replace any FRUs identified in this
procedure, use . If the FRUs are listed in
this or another Serviceable Event, select them from there.
Procedure
- Is the reference code 1xxx8402?
- Yes, prior to exchanging any parts, verify that the system processor
cards are installed.
If you are in test mode and have removed all of the system processor
cards, disregard
this reference code. Otherwise, correct the system processor
cards. If the system processor
cards are installed
correctly, then exchange the service processor (see SVCPROC). This ends the procedure.
- No, continue with the next step.
- Is the reference code 1xxx8404, 1xxx8405,
or 1xxx8406?
- Yes, use Table 1 to
find the correct action to take. See Location codes in serviceable events and Exchanging parts.
Table 1. Reference
code repair actions| Reference code |
Description/Action |
| 1xxx8404 |
System processor card mismatch. Exchange system processor
card 2 in the
primary CEC enclosure (P2-C2). |
| 1xxx8405 |
This SRC is not expected for the DS8000®, call
the next level of support. System processor card mismatch. Exchange system processor
card 1 in a
secondary CEC enclosure (P2-C1). |
| 1xxx8406 |
This SRC is not expected for the DS8000, call
the next level of support. System processor card mismatch. Exchange system processor
card 2 in a
secondary CEC enclosure (P2-C2). |
This ends the procedure.
- No, continue with the next step.
- Is the reference code 1xxx8409?
- Yes, no system processor
cards
are installed. If you are in test mode and have removed all of the system processor
cards, disregard
this reference code. Otherwise, correct the system processor
cards. If the system processor
cards are installed
correctly, exchange all the system processor
cards. See Location codes in serviceable events and Exchanging parts. This ends the procedure.
- No, continue with the next step.
- Is the reference code 1xxx8413, or 1xxx8414?
- Yes, use Table 2 to
find the correct action to take. See Location codes in serviceable events and Exchanging parts.
Table 2. Reference
code repair actions| Reference code |
Description/Action |
| 1xxx8413 |
Exchange system processor
card 1 (P2-C1). |
| 1xxx8414 |
Exchange system processor
card 2 (P2-C2). |
This ends the procedure.
- No, continue with the next step.
- Is the reference code 1xxx8423 or 1xxx8424?
- Yes, use Table 3 to
find the correct action to take. If that action does not fix the problem,
replace the CEC enclosure I/O backplane assembly. If that
action does not fix the problem, return to the serviceable event that
sent you here and replace the next part in the FRU list.
Table 3. Reference code repair actions| Reference code |
Description/Action |
| 1xxx8423 |
Exchange system processor
card 1 (P2-C1). |
| 1xxx8424 |
Exchange system processor
card 2 (P2-C2). |
This ends the procedure.
- No, continue with the next step.
- Is the reference code 1xxx911C?
- Yes, two nodes have the same VPD. This error should not occur
on a DS8000.
Replace other field replaceable units
listed in the problem. If this does not resolve the problem, contact
your next level of support. They should reference the IBM® eServer™ Hardware
Information Center VPDPART topic for more information. This ends
the procedure.
- No, continue with the next step.
- Is the 1xxx reference code 1xxx 84A1?
- No, continue with the next step.
- Yes, the VPD in the system
processor backplane cannot be read. The possible failing FRUs (in
order of probability) are:
- System processor card Un-P2-C1
- System processor card Un-P2-C2
- System processor backplane assembly Un-P2
- Service processor card Un-C11
- I/O backplane assembly Un-P1
- Is the 1xxx reference code 1xxx 84A3?
- No. This ends the procedure.
- Yes, the wrong service processor card is installed or the
VPD is not correct. Replace the service processor card in the CEC
enclosure.
