MAP4910 Handling a missing or failing host adapter resource

This failure indicates that an expected Host Adapter (HA) or Host Adapter Port resource was not found (SRC=BE360010 or BE360012). This might mean that the resource is not in the expected location or the resource is failing in such a way that it cannot be detected.

MAP4910 Section-1

Procedure

  1. View the list of serviceable events for this storage facility. For guidance, use MAP1210 Displaying and repairing a serviceable event. "MAP1210 Displaying and repairing a serviceable event" in the service information center. Do you have a serviceable event that indicates a 'higher level' failure, for example an I/O enclosure or PCIe.
    • Yes, repair that serviceable event first. Return here if you still have missing resources after that is repaired.
    • No, continue with the next step.
  2. View the list of serviceable events and check for any events other than SRC=BE360010 or BE360012 that list an HA as a FRU. Did you find any other serviceable events that meet this criteria?
    • Yes, repair that serviceable event first. Return here if you still have missing resources after that is repaired.
    • No, continue with the next step.
  3. View the serviceable event details for any events with SRC=BE360010 or BE360012 and use Table 1 to determine the next action. Look carefully at the FRU location field to see if an HA card is listed as the FRU (U1400.rBn.ssssss-P1-Cx) or an HA port (U1400.rBn.ssssss-P1-Cx-Ty). MAP4910 Section-2

Procedure

  1. Note the physical location of the failing HA card or HA card which contains the failing HA ports.
  2. Locate the failing HA card and perform a visual inspection. For help in locating the failing HA card, use MAP1245 Finding FRUs by using location codes.
  3. Was a related MES, RPQ, or repair procedure being followed before or at the time this error occurred?
    • Yes, ensure that all steps were completed properly. If no problem is identified, then contact your next level of support.
    • No, continue with the next step.
  4. Is there a card plugged into the failing slot?
    • Yes, continue with the next step.
    • No, if the card was removed using an MES, RPQ or repair procedure, then ensure that all steps were completed. If no problem is identified, then contact your next level of support.
  5. Observe the power LED for the failing card. This is a green LED that is located at the bottom center of the card. Is the power LED lit?
    Note: There is an amber LED used for slot 'Identify' that is located to the right of the card power LED. See I/O enclosure LED indicators for further information.
    • Yes, return to the serviceable event to replace the HA card.
    • No, the most likely FRU is the I/O enclosure backplane. However the HA card should be eliminated first. Perform the following:
    • a. Return to the serviceable event to replace the HA card.
    • b. If replacement of the HA card does not resolve the problem, then replace the I/O enclosure backplane. Use Storage Facility Management > storage facility > Exchange Parts.

Procedure

  1. Note the location code of the failing HA port. This provides the MTMS of the I/O enclosure and the HA card location.
  2. Run the HA port wrap test to determine if the host adapter card or port is failing. Do the following:
    1. From the navigation area, click Storage Facility Management > storage facility.
    2. From the bottom Task area, click Service Utilities > Manage FRUs.
    3. Click Show IO Enclosures, select the enclosure location, and then click Show Host Adapters.
    4. Select the Host Adapter and click Perform Wrap Test.
  3. Did the test run successfully?
    • Yes, it appears that the port is functional. Contact your next level of support.
    • No, return to the serviceable event to replace the HA card.
