MAP4810 Resetting the service processor (FSP)

Note: Use this section only if you are resetting the service processors in both of the CEC enclosures in the storage facility. This is not a concurrent procedure and it will require that the storage facility be completely powered off.

1. Verify that the CEC enclosures are already powered off. At the rear of the storage facility, view the CEC enclosure power supplies. Observe the DC GOOD LEDs . See Figure 1, Figure 2.
   Are the DC GOOD (output) LEDs lit continuously?

   • Yes, continue with the next step.
   • No, continue with MAP4810 Section-4.

2. Power off the storage facility.
   1. Ensure that the Local/Remote switch on the local remote switch card or System Z local remote switch card is set to Remote.
      • Model 941, see Figure 3.
      • Model 951 or Model 961 rack version 1, see Figure 4, index .
      • Model 961 rack version 2, see Figure 5, index .
   2. From the navigation area, click Storage Facility Management > storage facility.
   3. From the bottom Task area, click Service Utilities > Storage Facility Power Control. The Power Control window opens.
   4. Ensure that the Power Control Mode is set to Manual, click Power OFF Storage Facility and then click OK.
   5. Allow up to 5 minutes for the storage facility to power off. Go to step 1 to verify that the CEC enclosure is now powered off.
      Did the power-off complete successfully?

      • Yes, continue with MAP4810 Section-4.
      • No, continue with the next step.

3. Use the white Service Power Switch ( in Figure 3, in Figure 4, or in Figure 5) to power down the storage facility. Perform the following:
   1. Set the Local/Remote switch on the local remote switch card or System z® local remote switch card to Local. See Figure 3 and Figure 4 above.
   2. For Models 941, 951, and 961 rack version 1, press the white Service Power Switch (rocker) downwards.
      For Model 961 rack version 2, press the white Service Power Switch (rocker) to the right (towards J1).
   3. Allow up to 10 minutes for the storage facility to power off. Go to step 1 to verify that the CEC enclosure is now powered off.
      Did the power-off complete successfully?

      • Yes, continue with MAP4810 Section-4.
      • No, contact your next level of support.

Note: Use this section if you are resetting the service processor in only one of the CEC enclosures in the storage facility. This must not be done on both of the CEC enclosures in the storage facility or this could result in customer data loss.

1. Verify that the CEC enclosure is powered off. At the rear of the storage facility, view the CEC enclosure power supplies for the CEC enclosure, which houses the service processor that you have been asked to reset. See Figure 7, or Figure 8.
   Are the DC GOOD (output) LEDs lit continuously?

   • Yes, continue with the next step.
   • No, continue with MAP4810 Section-4.

2. Quiesce the LPARs that run on the CEC enclosure that requires the service processor reset. Perform the following steps to select the CEC enclosure:
   Note: Repeat the following steps for each Storage Facility Image (SFI) (one or more) that runs on the CEC enclosure.
   1. From the navigation area, click Storage Facility Management > storage facility > SF image.
   2. From the right work area, select the storage facility image.
   3. From the bottom Task area, click Service Utilities > Change/Show LPAR State > Quiesce LPAR.
   4. Press the Enter key, and confirm the action.
3. Deactivate the LPARs that run on the CEC enclosure that requires the FSP reset. Perform the following steps to select the CEC enclosure:
   Note: Repeat the following steps for each SFI (one or more) that runs on the CEC enclosure.
   1. From the navigation area, click Storage Facility Management > storage facility > SF image.
   2. From the right work area, select the storage facility image.
   3. From the bottom Task area, click Service Utilities > Change/Show LPAR State > Deactivate LPAR.
   4. Press the Enter key, and confirm the action.
4. Attempt to power off the CEC enclosure using the Service Utilities. Perform the following steps to select the CEC enclosure:
   Note: If there is a communication problem between the HMC and the service processor, this step might not work.
   1. From the navigation area, click Storage Facility Management > storage facility > Server View > server.
   2. From the bottom Task area, click Service Utilities > Storage System Power Control.
   3. Click Power OFF System and confirm the action.
   Did the power-off complete successfully? See step 1 to verify.

   • Yes, continue with MAP4810 Section-4.
   • No, continue with the next step.
5. Is the affected CEC enclosure in a 242x model 961 (8205-E6C or 8205-E6D)?
   • Yes, continue with step 6.
   • No, continue with step 7.
6. At the front of the affected CEC enclosure, press the blue release tab to the left and pull the control panel out to the service position. See Figure 9.
   When you are finished with this procedure, carefully slide the control panel into the control panel bay until it latches in place.

7. Power off the CEC enclosure using the CEC enclosure control panel. Perform the following steps while referring to Figure 10 or Figure 11.
   1. Press the Increment button until 02 is displayed on the display.
   2. Press Enter. Display will show:
      
   3. Press Enter. The panel displays [N<] as shown:
      
   4. Press the Increment button. The panel displays [M<] as shown:
      
   5. Press Enter. The panel displays [V<] as shown:
      
   6. Press Enter. The panel displays [P<] as shown:
      
   7. Press Enter. Display will show 02 only.
   8. Press the Power push-button and hold it until you see the power down sequence start.
   9. Wait until the CEC enclosure has powered down (Power On light will be flashing).
8. Reset the CEC enclosure to Normal mode.
   1. Press the Increment button until 02 is shown on the display.
   2. Press Enter. Display will show:
      
   3. Press Enter. The '<' moves from [A<] to [N<] as shown:
      
   4. Press the Increment button. The [N<] changes to [M<] as shown:
      
   5. Press Enter three more times. The display will show 02.
   6. Continue with MAP4810 Section-4.

Use this section to reset the service processor.

1. Ensure you have completed the steps in MAP4810 Section-2 or MAP4810 Section-3 before performing the following steps.
2. To reset the service processor, refer to Figure 10 or Figure 11 to do the following:
   1. Unbend a paper clip so that it has a straight section about two inches long.
   2. Insert the clip straight into the hole, keeping the clip perpendicular to the plastic bezel.
      Note: For Models 941 and 951, the hole is next to the control panel power button (see Figure 10). For Model 961, the hole  K  is above the increment button (see Figure 11).
   3. Feel the detent of the reset switch when it is engaged. After you press the switch, the service processor is reset, then the CEC enclosure shuts down.
3. Wait while the service processor continues to IPL. This will take a few minutes. Following a good IPL, the CEC enclosure control panel will show:
