MAP1205 Special case of replacing multiple high-priority FRUs at the same time

This MAP procedure is only used when directed by the management console GUI while repairing an open serviceable event.

Procedure

  1. Read all the steps in this MAP before you begin the repair. It is important to have an overview of how to do the nonstandard repair.
  2. You were automatically directed to MAP1205 while repairing an open serviceable event.
    MAP1205 is not listed in the serviceable event FRU list. This is a special case where more than one FRU in the FRU list is a high-priority FRU. All high-priority FRUs must be replaced at the same time. The high-priority FRUs were listed in the GUI screen that sent you here.
    • FRUs are normally replaced individually and the service information center parts exchange procedures are written to support that.
    • This MAP guides you on how to replace multiple FRUs at the same time.
  3. Are all the listed FRUs in a CEC enclosure?
    • Yes, continue with step 4.
    • No, exit this MAP and call the next level of support. This MAP does not apply to non-CEC FRUs.
  4. Do the following:
    1. Review the list of high-priority FRU displayed just before coming to this MAP.
    2. Notice whether any of these FRUs are listed:
      • CEC enclosure system backplane
      • CEC enclosure VPD card
      • CEC enclosure time-of-day battery

      These FRUs have additional logical procedures that you must do after they are physically replaced.

    3. Does the FRU list displayed just before this MAP contain any of the FRUs listed above?
      • Yes, continue with step 5 (Serviceable event FRU list contains FRU that needs additional logical procedures).
      • No, continue at step 6 (Serviceable event FRU list does not contain FRU that needs additional logical procedures).
  5. Serviceable event FRU list contains a FRU that needs additional logical procedures:
    1. Use Table 1 (Model 961) to start the repair. Start at the top of the table and go down row by row until you find the condition that applies. Use the last column to determine the FRU and then continue at substep 5.b.

    2. Begin the repair of the FRU that you selected above. See MAP1230 Replace a FRU without using a serviceable event.
    3. As you proceed in the repair, the parts exchange procedure to physically replace that FRU is automatically displayed. When that occurs, also do step 5d.
    4. Open the service information center and navigate to the parts exchange procedure for each remaining FRU in the high-priority FRU list.
      1. Open the service information center by clicking Help in the upper right of the HMC main screen.
      2. Display the CEC enclosure FRU topic for each FRU in your list. See CEC enclosure.
    5. After you have replaced all the high-priority FRUs in the list, continue the repair process.
      1. Close the parts exchange procedures that you opened outside the serviceable event.
      2. Return to the parts exchange procedure you originally started the repair with, and continue normally. (Closing the parts exchange procedure window continues the repair process.)
    6. When the repair process is complete, you may need to close the open serviceable event that originally sent you to this MAP.
    7. Exit this MAP.
  6. Serviceable event FRU list does not contain FRU that needs additional logical procedures:
    1. Use Table 2 (Model 961) to start the repair. Start at the top of the table and go down row by row until you find the condition that applies. Use the last column to determine the FRU and then continue at substep 6.b.

    2. Begin the repair of the FRU that you selected above. See MAP1230 Replace a FRU without using a serviceable event.
    3. As you proceed in the repair, the service information center parts exchange procedure to replace that FRU is automatically displayed. When that occurs, also do step 6.d.
    4. Display the service information center parts exchange procedure for each remaining FRU in the high-priority FRU list.
      1. Launch the service information center by clicking Help in the upper right of the HMC main screen.
      2. Display the CEC enclosure FRU topic for each FRU in your list. See CEC enclosure.
    5. After you have replaced all the high-priority FRUs in the list, continue the repair process.
      1. Close the parts exchange procedures that you opened.
      2. Return to the parts exchange procedure you originally started the repair with, and continue normally. (Closing the parts exchange procedure window continues the repair process.)
    6. When the repair process is complete, you might need to manually close the open serviceable event that originally sent you to this MAP.
    7. Exit this MAP.
