Determining the LIC bundle VRMF of the new secondary management
console (MC 2) and compare to primary (MC 1)
Procedure
- Display and write down the LIC bundle level of
the microcode on the management console (MC 2) being installed in
the new Rack-1. Perform the following steps:
- From
the navigation area, click Updates.
- From
the right work area, select the radio button for the secondary management
console (HMC2). The bottom Task area displays a list of tasks you
can select.
- Click Display Installed HMC Code Levels. An Action
Panel displays the code levels.
- Find Package:
HMC, MTMS: XXXXXXX*XXXXXXX and find the Bundle VRMF:
xx.xx.xx.xx beneath it. There might be more than one bundle
under install history; select the top line which is the latest bundle.
- Write down the LIC
bundle VRMF.
- Find the LIC
bundle VRMF condition
that applies:
- The VRMF of the new and existing HMC is the same. Go to Setting the date, time, and customer network connection.
- The VRMF of the new secondary HMC is higher (newer) than the
VRMF of the existing primary HMC. Go to the next step.
- The VRMF of the new secondary HMC is lower (older) than the
VRMF of the existing primary HMC. Go to the next step.
- You must contact your next
level of support before
you proceed. The following are guidelines they will consider before
instructing you to proceed.
- Consult your next level of support for this storage model, for
information regarding microcode levels, updates, and migration instructions.
Note that this information generally applies to storage facilities
and HMCs that are already installed, such as your existing storage
facility and primary HMC.
- The storage facility VRMF levels are updated or migrated to newer
and higher levels. They normally are not loaded with an older lower
level.
- It is possible to change the VRMF level of an HMC that is not
yet installed using the HMC hard drive rebuild procedures.
- It is usually not possible to change the VRMF level of a storage
facility that is not yet installed. The CDA and CCL code processes
are not designed to run on uninstalled hardware.
- If the new storage facility VRMF level must be changed to be compatible
with the existing storage facility, it is possible to first change
the HMC role from secondary to primary and then install it as the
first storage facility in a temporary storage complex. That would
allow you to use normal CDA and CCL processes to change the VRMF level.
After that is complete, the new storage facility would be manually
changed back to the uninstalled state so normal installation procedures
could be used to add it to the existing storage facility.
- If the next level of support requires you to change the
VRMF level of the new secondary HMC, go to the next section.
