DS8000 Service Documentation Version 7.5
Checking management consoles (HMCs) and expansion racks
Procedure
- Only the following hardware configurations of
storage facilities (SF) and management consoles (HMC) are supported.
If the configuration you are installing does not match one of these
configurations, stop and call the next level of support.
- 1x1 = One HMC and one
SF, (HMC is internal to SF rack-1)
- 2x1
= Two HMCs and
one SF (first HMC is internal to SF rack-1, the second HMC is "external"
which means it is in a customer rack)
- 2x2
= Two HMCs and two SFs (first HMC
is internal to SF1, the second HMC is internal to SF2)
Note: If your existing storage facility is a 2x1 and you will
be installing a second SF, you will be instructed how to discontinue
the existing second HMC so the new HMC in the second SF can take its
place.
- Select the following condition that applies to
your installation. This new storage facility (SF)
will be:
- The first SF in a new storage complex. Go to step 5.
- The second SF connected to the first SF in an existing storage
complex. Go to the next step
- Determine the total number of HMCs
in the existing storage complex that are already available for use.
Select the condition that applies:
- The existing external HMC2 must be discontinued.
The HMC2 code objects on HMC1 and SF1 LPARs must be reset so
the new HMC2 can be installed..
- Consult your next level of support for this storage
model. After you complete that procedure, return here and go to the
next step.
- Does the new storage facility to
be installed have one or more storage expansion racks?
