DS8000 Service Documentation Version 6.3.3
MAP31F0 SRC BE304100 No hot spare disk drives are available for an array that is configured for hot spare disk drives
This MAP is used to explain why the replacements of DDMs in this serviceable event must occur immediately.
About this task
- It is critical to repair at least one of the DDMs listed in this FRU list
to create an available spare. The remaining failed DDMs in this FRU list should
be replaced as soon as possible, and then DDMs listed in other open serviceable
events can be replaced.Note: Each DA pair (pair of device adapter cards) has a preset number of spare DDMs assigned in the attached storage enclosures. These spare DDMs serve as backups for failing DDMs in arrays with customer data. The customer data on the failed drive is reconstructed and written onto the spare which then becomes part of the active array. The failed DDM is replaced and then becomes a spare. SRC BE304100 is reported when there are no longer any available spares on this DA pair because none of the failed DDMs have been replaced. If another active DDM fails, the customer will lose access to all data on this array until at least one failed DDM is replaced, which will create an available spare.
